On vacation, relaxing and writing!

My vacation so far has proved to be relaxing! My mother and I rented a gorgeous house right on the beach in Rockaway, Oregon. In our downtime, I’ve been writing and she’s been reading The Island! It’s been all too entertaining watching her reading it, her reactions to certain things and begging me to tell her about stuff before it happens. It’s cute. And she is a hardcore Michael fan, which surprised me, I thought she’d be totally Gabe! But she’s loving it.

I’ve hit about 2,000 words in my next book. I have a LONG way to go!

Hitting the road for a much-needed vacation! I am off to Rockaway Beach, Oregon for 5 days. I plan on doing a ton of relaxing, reading, walking and …. writing. I’m bringing my laptop with me, I’ve been writing Michael’s story in my head for pretty much the last week and I’m thinking that the ocean air and sand will inspire me 😀

Friday Top Five

I decided to have a little fun and start a thing here. My Friday top five. Seeing as how I am one, eight hour day away from my beach vacation, I suppose some fun is in order! Today’s topic? My generalized top five favorites!

  1. Favorite artist of all time? Joshua Radin. I love his acoustic style, I love his lyrics, I love his voice. I listen to him constantly! And he makes up more than half of my writing playlists! The song What if You…kills me every time.

2. Favorite Band. Manchester Orchestra. The album Simple Math is probably one of the best concept albums I’ve ever heard. Every song ties together the story of a man’s relationship with his wife and his music in a rocking, emotional gut punching style. Followed up by Cope and Hope, their sheer genius is quantified. Listen to the different ways one simple song can make you feel with Every Stone from Cope and Every Stone from Hope.

3. Favorite TV show. Heart of Dixie. I’m a hopeless romantic at heart. And I love me a good bad boy. Throw those two together with a witty and wise-cracking heroine and tons of cute clothes. I’m hooked. I am embarrassed to say how many times I have watched this short-lived series through!

4. Favorite book ever? Eat Pray Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert. I’ve read this book through probably five times. Each time I was at a different place in my life, and I found new things that struck me each time. To say that this book just really speaks to my soul is an understatement, and it will remain a forever favorite on my bookshelf for a long time.

5. Favorite Movie. Nights in Rodanthe. Romance-a-holic remember? I’ve often joked that I am one Nicholas Sparks movie away from a complete emotional breakdown. While I don’t personally enjoy his books, I LOVE all the movie adaptations. Give me romance, give me tragedy…I’m yours. And I am not ashamed to say I cry every damn time!

The Island

Three people. One relationship.

“I’m saying, I love you,” Gabe shook his head.
“And I love you,” Michael nodded.
“This makes no sense,” I muttered quietly.
“No,” Gabe chuckled softly, “it doesn’t. But it’s happening.I think we all knew it would happen too, right from the beginning.”

Thirty-one-year-old Amie Graham is moving on with her life, or at least she’s trying to pick up the shattered pieces of it anyway. Just after her father’s death, came the devastating blow that her now ex-husband had been cheating on her. A lot. Lost and confused, she follows the advice of her best friend Tony to take some time away from work and find out who she is again. Following a whim, Amie signs up for Global Humanity a charity group that specializes in rebuilding homes and communities lost to natural disasters.
When she finds herself sent to the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii life is supposed to be more straightforward, less complicated and definitely less dramatic. But fate has a sense of humor and throws a complication or two right in her path.
Gabe and Michael are childhood friends, both coming from tumultuous pasts. Gabe is calm and serene, walking through life with the stride of a lion. Michael is boyish and charming, with all the grace of a grizzly bear. Amie finds herself falling in love with both of them, and they with her. But can three people really love each other, or is it just the air of the island messing with their hearts and minds?
